Ricado Monasterio (VEN) won the men's 400 freestyle in 3:50.01, a personal best by four seconds. The 25-year-old established a games record, bettering the 12-year-old previous time of 3:50.38. It was the first of two medals for his country on the fourth day of Pan Am swiming.
Kyle Salyards (USA) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.37, another Games record, with four swimmers contesting the remaing podium spots. Sean Quinn (USA) took the silver in 2:15.77 and Marcelo Tomazini (BRA) the bronze in 2:15.87. Only a 1/100th behind Thiago Pereira (BRA) in fourth and Scott Dickens (CAN) fifth in 2:15.94.
Brazil won the men's 4x100 free relay in 3:18.66, shy of their Games record from four years ago. Venezuela was second and Canada third. The USA was disqualifed when second swimmer Jayme Cramer left early.
Staciana Stitts (USA) successfully defended her Pan Title from four year ago with a Games record win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.01.
Bethany Goodwin (USA) won the 100 butterfly in 59.97, with Audrey Lacroix (CAN) second in 1:00.18. Dana Kirk (UA) in third with 1:00.51. The Games record was established in the morning prelims by Dana Vollmer (USA) in 59.35 swimming exhibition.
The USA leads in medals (14-12-2) with 28 totals, with 12 events remaining. Brazil in second with 15 (2-2-11) already ahead of their total from four years ago. Canada has 8 total and is still looking for their first gold.
