It was a fired up Roland Schoeman who added another three titles and a national record on the penultimate day of the Telkom South African Short Course Swimming Championships in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday. Schoeman took both the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly 'dash-for-cash' races in excellent times despite his heavy racing schedule. But his evening began with an outstanding performance against the best individual medley swimmers in the country.

The USA-based Schoeman lead from the start in the men's 100m IM to clock 54,55sec and lower the SA record held by runner-up Theo Verster by 1,25sec with Darian Townsend third in 56,49.

Schoeman then had to take on fellow Olympian Nick Folker in the 50m freestyle swim-off, touching in 21,82sec to Folker's 22,25sec.

Just a few events later, it was another titanic battle with Stephan Ackermann in the 50m butterfly. He ended only 0,22sec outside his national record with a 23,67sec dash with Ackermann finishing on 24,32sec.

Another solid performance came from Kurt Muller in the men's 100m breaststroke, clocking an encouraging 1:00,97 to beat SA record holder Brett Petersen and Neil Versveld who clocked 1:02,51 and 1:02,78 respectively.

Mandy Loots added a fourth individual title in the women's 100m IM after a tough race with Candice Little and Tamaryn Loubscher. Loots won in 1:04,06 with Little on 1:04,99 and Loubscher on 1:05,79.

Another World Record was broken by disabled swimmer Tadhg Slattery in the 100m breaststroke event. His time of 1:31,77 lowered his own record set a few years ago by almost two seconds.

Other victories came from Theo Verster in the mens 200m butterfly (2:01,29), Marizanne Grundlingh in the womens 400m freestyle (4:14,93), Troyden Prinsloo in the mens 800m freestyle (7:57,94), Romina Armillini in the womens 50m backstroke (29,25sec) and Lauren Roets in the womens 50m freestyle (26,22sec).
